Bottle fly casters are the pupae stage of the blue/green bottle fly (Lucilia sericata). They offer a brilliant way to store live food and hatch it when you need it — providing fresh, moving feeders that trigger strong hunting behaviour in a wide range of species.
Once they emerge, the flies are strong flyers, unlike curly-wings. This makes them especially good for encouraging chasing, stalking, and full instinctive feeding responses.

Hatching & Storage
Keep the casters at 14–20°C and out of direct sunlight. At this temperature range they will hatch within 4–10 days, depending on warmth and airflow. Lower temperatures will slow development; higher temperatures will speed it up.
To boost nutrition as soon as they emerge, offer a small amount of gut-loading food (carrot, leafy greens, sweet potato or insect diet). Remove leftovers daily to avoid mould.
