Use this checklist as soon as livefood arrives so feeders can recover from transit and settle into the correct storage conditions.

Open and ventilate

Open the parcel promptly and make sure feeders have airflow before judging their condition. In winter, cold conditions can make bugs look lifeless while their metabolic rate drops into a sleep-like state.

  • From November to March, let chilled feeders warm gently at room temperature before judging movement.
  • Do not use direct heat, radiators, heat mats, or hot water; gentle warming often allows cold-stunned bugs to become active again.

Check movement and moisture

Look for normal movement, healthy colour, and packaging that is not too wet or collapsed.

  • Remove spoiled food where needed.
  • Do not mist feeders unless their care guide calls for it.

Transfer to the right setup

Each feeder type stores differently. Good ventilation, food, and temperature matter most.

  • Use storage tips for feeder-specific care.
